Floral Alert! It’s Reigning Purple!

Got Spring fever? If so, you may have started looking for spring items to add to your wardrobes. As you know, spring & summer merchandise is coming into your favorite stores. Living in the South, January-March is always a difficult time of year to dress. Last week alone, we went from a rainy 40 degrees to sunny and 80. I kept that in mind when I sat to write this article and wanted to share 2 trends that can transition easily if you’re still in cold temps and wear winter clothes or want to add a spring item just to freshen up your tired winter wardrobe.

Since Pantone’s color of the year is Ultra Violet, I thought that would be a great way to kick off spring! Prince, “the Artist formally know as Prince”, or “insert symbol”…. would have been all over this trend since it’s Reigning Purple this year! RIP. This color goes from lavender to a deep purple and you’ll even see some burgundy shades added to the palette. For the Firey fashionistas, a bold purple is right up your alley, while Metals will enjoy the lighter side by adding lavender to their pastel palette.

Not a fan of Ultra Violet? Or if it’s not a fan of you (and your skin tone), fear not! Think about changing your polish to a purple shade at your next mani/pedi or integrating purple accessories. Waters can go dark or paint each nail a different shade of purple and Earths may just want to add a more conservative approach with 1 shade of purple or a purple handbag.

I love Tibi’s hi-neck crop blouse for spring!   Metals could wear this clean line design with white, cream or even gray pants and make it more elegant while Water elements will add their artistic twist and possibly pair it with a high waist pant or jean and combat boots.

You’ll see lots of Ultra Violet options in shoes and accessories, too. Water elements, these chunky Mary Janes by L’Artiste are on the darker spectrum compared to the pastel floral version of the Sbicca Mule which ties into both trends but both will work back to easily into The Philosophers wardrobes.

Wood elements can get their “exercise” on with these bright purple NikeLab Sneakers or top off their looks with a pair of purple shades like theses from Leith 65mm in a Metal Cat Eye. Whether it’s a day on the trails or just picking kids up from school, the Athleisure trend is still HOT! You’re sure to find many options in Ultra Violet tops, jackets and pants to fulfill your needs.

Fire elements always want to stand out and they will draw the attention wearing these Stella McCartney Purple Cat Eye Frames. As a Fire & cat eye frame fanatic, I’ve got these on my wish list! LOVE!! Looking sexy and alluring won’t be a problem in these Sky-high Strappy Heels by Vince Camuto, in an iridescent purple tone.

Earths may want to step up their color game and out of the neutral zone by simply adding a Casual Henley in this beautiful periwinkle shade from Free People.   It’s a bit more classic in styling than most of the Free People “flowy/bohemian style” items. You can’t go wrong with a Classic Driving Loafer, just punched-up a notch or two, in this beautiful shade by Robert Zur or dress up and add a Sling Back with block heel and bow in summer suede by J. Renee. Block heels will still be in style so pull yours out from last year. Who doesn’t love wearing items multiple seasons?

Metal elements will adore this beautiful St. John Ruffle Blouse in silk (of course) paired with jeans for a casual Girl’s Night Out or make it work appropriate with a pencil skirt or slim pant in a similar shade for a column of color. And finally, the Yakira Pointy Toe Mule by Hispanitas in lavender, will complete metals casual flare with shorts or sleek sundress and your favorite metallic or pastel hue.

The other major trend you’ll see this spring is not new and has been around for a number of seasons (and years) in different varieties are FLORALS. From classic to abstract, there is something for every element in every imaginable color story. You can even call it the Heavy Petal Trend when adding the statement sleeve trend. Water elements will be able to show their creative flair combining florals with different prints, patterns, and colors to get as funky as they want. The Alice + Olivia Floral Robe Jacket takes inspiration from lingerie but you can add this topper over your favorite T or tank and jeans or shorts or even wear it over an asymmetrical neckline black dress for some interest.

Wood elements can add their athletic style with stripes to pair with this floral Penelope cabi top that is a great transitioning piece with the darker earth tones and green. Since the Pioneer also enjoys the outdoors, this Alice + Olivia Meta Embroidered Utility Jacket in olive combines the toughness of a menswear jacket with feminine touches of black lace flowers and the large cargo pockets will hold lots of items, too.

Fire elements will still see lots of 1 shoulder, cold shoulder and bell sleeve styles to add drama to their floral tops and dresses. This beautiful Lush Blouse by cabi is not only in a bold hibiscus shade but is covered in florals, has the open shoulder and a sexy V-neck all in one! Add your favorite slim-fitting white pant or pair of deconstructed denim with your sexy heels and head out for a night on the town.

Need a cocktail dress for an upcoming event? Pleasure Seekers will be drop dead gorgeous wearing this Red 3D Floral Lace Dress by Azaela. I love the peekaboo hem and all of the movement from the 3-dimensional flowers. Don’t forget your wrap and heels.

Earth elements can easily add florals to their classic wardrobe. The River Island Earth Tone Floral Blouse can easily transition from fall/winter to spring by topping it with a trench coat or boxy style jacket in a neutral shade. The Poet Blouse by cabi is a feminine take with the smaller floral designs. The chiffon fabric will float nicely over Earths square shape. This is a great piece that can be worn to work with a cardigan or jacket over and skirt or with cropped pants or shorts on the weekend.

Finally, Metal elements aren’t left out of the floral trend with this beautiful Muted Metallic Dress by Kay Unger. Classic, yet elegant in style is just what you’ll need for your summer wedding or another event on your calendar. Scarves are still a great accessory item and you’ll see them moving from the longer lengths in thicker fabrics of fall/winter to shorter square shapes chiffons and silks for spring/summer. Everyone needs a Floral Scarf! This one, also in silk by Echo, can be worn as a neckerchief or wrap to top off your look.

I hope you can incorporate these two trends into your wardrobe this Spring. Embrace and have fun with you’re your style. Try a new shade or color and I encourage you all to step out of YOUR fashion box. Wishing you a Spring filled with bright colorful flowers to inspire your shopping and Ultra Violet rays of sunshine!
